KUALA LUMPUR: There is no need for government departments and agencies to present excellent service award if the quality of service among civil servants is dropping, said Cuepacs president Omar Osman.
He said the annual awards was to recognise civil servants who excelled. "Each department sends a performance report to the government. "We have seen that civil servants have been performing well. "But if it is true that the performance has been unsatisfactory, there is no need to give the excellent service awards."
Public Service director-general Tan Sri Ismail Adam was reported as saying that the quality of service among civil servants had been dropping, judging from the number of complaints received by the Public Complaints Bureau. The bureau received 6,059 complaints between January and September, 5,437 last year, 3,397 in 2006 and 2,707 in 2005. The complaints included delays, inaction, decisions which were deemed unfair, lack of service quality, abuse of power, misconduct and failure of enforcement.
