KOTA BAHARU, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Cuepacs, the civil service workers union has proposed that laboratory technicians be promoted to a higher grade to commensurate their demanding duties. Its president Omar Osman said they should be promoted from grade 41 presently as their experience and skills were at par if not better than professional officers."Despite this, laboratory technicians are prevented from being promoted to a higher grade," he told reporters after attending a seminar for laboratory technicians organised by Universiti Sains Malaysia and the Health Ministry here. This need to be done as they had been marginalised from the promotion exercise despite attaining diplomas and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) certificates."I pledge to help get the laboratory technicians promoted as laboratory technology officers," he said.Omar added the laboratory technicians only received the normal public service allowance despite having possesing the necessary skills."They should be receiving special incentives because of their experience and skills in laboratory technology," he said.-- BERNAMA
