PUTRAJAYA: Contrary to what Cuepacs says, one can resit the Competency Level Assessment (PTK) examination.
Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Ismail Adam laid arguments to rest that a candidate applying for a Grade 17 to Grade 54 post cannot re-sit the exam once he or she fails."Of course they can resit. Those who fail will have another chance," he said when contacted."We are just trying to restrict the number of candidates who take the exam each year and who just make it through the passing level."They (Cuepacs) are depriving the chances of people who take the test to make it to the excellent level on Band 4."
Making to the Band 4 grade of the PTK exam will merit a promotion and a salary increment. When asked if there would be clear guidelines to administrators on how to differentiate between such candidates, Ismail said it was the prerogative of the department heads."Each department will have their own records on how their staff take the PTK exam." He was asked to comment on Cuepacs' latest move to reject 40 per cent of the latest amendments made to the PTK.The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Service or Cuepacs, an umbrella body which represents 120 public and civil service unions, had passed the resolution at a special meeting. The changes made to the PTK which affect 34 areas, since Jan 1, affect 1.2 million civil servants.Ismail welcomed the constructive criticisms from Cuepacs and would be looking forward to their report on the matter
