SERDANG, May 22 (Bernama) -- Cuepacs wants the government to consider raising the rank of officers in the management and professional group, those who are still in an appointed grade although they have served for a long time. Its president Omar Osman said he had raised the issue with the Public Service Department (PSD) at a meeting Thursday, and was told the matter was being reviewed. He said the request was made because there were employees in the management and professional group who were still in their appointed grade for years because of limited chances for promotion. He said Cuepacs welcomed the prime minister's announcement on May 14 that officers in the support group who worked for 15 years or more, but were still in the same grade, would be considered for a higher grade starting July 1, and hoped the same would be done for officers in the management and professional group."Maybe the PSD wants to settle this first (support officers) and will later look at the other group (management and professional)," he said at a news conference in Dewan Besar, Universiti Putra Malaysia, here Friday.Omar said at the meeting Thursday, Cuepacs also asked the PSD to consider a special exam similar to the Competency Level Assessment (PTK) but it should be easier to allow those who had served for more than 20 years in the support group to get a better chance for promotion.Among the requirements for the support group who have served for more than 15 years is to score 80 marks and above for three years consecutively in the performance assessment and pass the PTK at least at level three."The PTK system now is more difficult for those who have served 20 to 25 years. They seem to have given up ... so if there is a special test that is easier, they have a chance of passing and being considered for promotion," he said.Omar said the support group involved 175,000 employees in the public sector.-- BERNAMA
