KUALA LUMPUR: Cuepacs has told about 400 residents living in the Jalan Cochrane government quarters to disregard the Dec 15 notice to vacate their homes until better terms are negotiated.
Its president Omar Osman said they had yet to receive a reply to their Oct 13 letter sent to the related division and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan asking for the deadline to be extended until Dec 31 next year to give the residents more time.
The property management division of the Prime Minister’s Department had issued a notice in May asking the residents to vacate their homes.
Omar told residents to stay put regardless of whether they receive a reply by Dec 15.
“We are not against the notice for the residents to move out but ample time should be given and adequate moving allowance.
“You cannot just give them RM500 and ask them to move out as many have lived here for decades.
“They should be given between RM3,000 and RM5,000 moving allowance and provided with lorries to help them move,” he said at a meeting with the residents yesterday.
Some residents, he added, had disabled family members and children sitting for major exams.
Omar told the residents to report to Cuepacs, if they are threatened in any way.
“There is nothing in the notice which says that civil servants will face disciplinary action or be sacked if they do not move out by Dec 15,” he said.
Omar said he was trying to meet with Sidek to resolve the matter.
