PETALING JAYA: Cuepacs will meet various organisations next week to discuss a boycott on pricey consumer goods, including chicken.
Its president Datuk Omar Osman said several non-governmental organisations, including Perkasa and the Malaysian Youth Council, had pledged their support for the move.
“We have also sent letters to the Malaysian Trades Union Congress and other organisations to inform them of our stand.
“There will be a meeting on Nov 2 to discuss this matter and we will make a joint statement then,” he said yesterday.
Omar said Cuepacs was planning the boycott on daily essentials after receiving many complaints about overpriced goods from members.
“Workers from the private sector have also complained to us.
“But at the moment, we are still preparing (for the boycott),” he added.
Omar said prices of goods were spiralling while wages remained stagnant. This caused Cuepacs to plan the move.
He said the boycott would include reducing trips to the market and seeking cheaper alternatives.
In its website, Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali said the group supported Cuepacs in its protest to teach traders, especially chicken sellers, a lesson.
“I believe we can still survive without chicken.
“Let's teach them a lesson if they still insist on increasing the price of chicken according to their whims and fancies,” he said.
It was reported that Cuepacs had urged the country's 1.3 million civil servants to stage a silent protest against consumer goods, especially chicken, starting next month.
Cuepacs kamu jadi jurucakap PA tentang perkara melibatkan skim perkhidmatan, emolumen, kebajikan, prestasi dan kompetensi PA sudahlah ... usah ambil tanggongjawab Persatuan Pengguna.
BalasPadamUsah jadi hero Mamak Presden Cupec.
