CUEPACS CALL FOR REVIEW OF 231 CIVIL SERVANTS' ALLOWANCES

Sundaydaily
KEMAMAN: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) have urged the government to review and increase 231 types of allowance given to civil servants. Its president Datuk Azih Muda said the review was warranted in the face of higher living costs.

"Civil servants' allowances have not been reviewed for a long time while the cost of living keeps rising and therefore appropriate for the government to do so."These allowances include housing, public service, cost of living, travelling, hotel, and regional allowance for those serving in Sabah and Sarawak," he told reporters here today. He said this after presenting kitchen appliances to 300 government servants affected by the floods in the district.

Cuepacs noted that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak had endeavoured to raise the matter but so far, no decision had been forthcoming, he said."There is no point in taking too long to study the matter as living costs will keep on rising," said Azih.Meanwhile, Cuepacs have also urged the government to duly implement the 252 new schemes announced by the prime minister in October last year.

"There should not be any impediment for the government to implement them as they do not involve salary division," he said.He said restructuring of posts and promotion should be compulsory every five years to provide the opportunity to civil servants to enhance their position. "Many civil servants in the support group have acquired first or second class degree and so on. They should be given a promotion and salary that commensurate with their qualification," he added. – Bernama
