A SPECIAL assistance of RM500 for all civil servants and RM250 for government pensioners will be given in January.
These were among the measures to show gratitude to civil servants past and present under Budget 2016.
Also announced was an allocation of RM1.1bil for a salary adjustment equivalent to one annual increment according to grade, which will benefit 1.6 million civil servants.
Cuepacs president Datuk Azih Muda believed that this announcement meant civil servants would receive a double increment next year.
He said the salary adjustment announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should be in addition to their usual annual increment.
“Overall, it is a good budget and we would like to express our gratitude to the Government for looking after the welfare of civil servants and those who have retired,” said Azih.
Under the Budget, the Government will also improve 252 service schemes, which will benefit 406,000 civil servants.
The minimum starting salary in the civil service will also be set at RM1,200 a month, benefiting 60,000 employees.
The minimum pension rate will be RM950 a month for pensioners with at least 25 years of service, to the benefit of almost 50,000 pensioners.
The Government will also offer permanent employment to 43,000 contract officers who have at least 15 years of service.
These measures will be implemented effective from July 1 next year with an allocation of RM1.4bil.
