PUTRAJAYA, March 23 (Bernama) -- Cuepacs will withhold its demands for a pay hike for the 1.2 million civil servants until the country's economy improves, its general secretary, Ahmad Shah Mohd Zin, said today.However, it would continue negotiations with the Public Service Department (PSD) on the improvement of service issues like promotions, competency assessment tests, transfers, and over-time.He told Bernama here that civil servants should now focus on helping the government to increase revenue and improve its delivery system.Ahmad said the customs, immigration, income tax and road transport departments were some of the departments that could help increase government revenue through tighter enforcement.He also called on civil servants in the local authorities and city councils to also double up and increase revenue through proper enforcement.He said Cuepacs would be fully supportive of the government as its members' welfare was closely linked with the "economic health" of the nation.On improving the delivery system, Ahmad called on civil servants to be innovative to find ways to bring about higher productivity,like forming quality groups (Q-Groups) within their department to come up with ideas to cut down on procedures and unnecessary paperwork.-- BERNAMA
