KUALA LUMPUR: Cuepacs will continue to press the government for a two-month bonus for the 1.2 million civil servants in the country.
In a meeting attended by 108 of its 120 congress members here yesterday, the congress not only endorsed the two-month bonus demand taken at an earlier meeting, but also wanted its leaders to meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak soon.
A letter seeking the meeting will be sent to the Prime Minister’s office today.
Cuepacs president Omar Osman said their argument for the bonus was based on the increased productivity within the civil service.
“The civil servants deserve the bonus payment as they have been working very hard to improve the delivery system in the civil service,” he said, adding that he was confident that Najib would be sympathetic towards the plight of the government servants.
According to Omar, should the government accept their appeal, the payout would amount to about RM6bil.
Omar said the congress was shocked when there was no mention of bonus for civil servants in the Budget 2010.
“If the government cannot afford the bonuses, it should not have announced any extra payment for civil servants,” he said referring to the RM500 special payment extended to those in Grades 41 and 54.
He said the congress also wanted the special payment to be extended to civil servants under the optional retirement and those attached to government-linked companies who have retired.
Last year, the government gave a one-month bonus with a minimum of RM1,000 while none was paid in the previous year when salary adjustments for civil servants was approved.

Harap cuepacs perjuangkan satu elaun khas kepada gred hakiki 4,6,14,22,32 sebab kerja lebih berbanding gred KUP yang kerja mudah tapi gaji sama. Apa ceta ni...letih o. lembu pun marah kalau kerja lebih makan kurang.
