PUTRAJAYA: Cuepacs, the umbrella union for the country's 1.3 million civil servants, yesterday hailed Datuk Seri Najib Razak's appointment as a boost for the public sector.
Its president, Omar Osman, said Najib, who has held various portfolios before his formal
appointment as prime minister today, had proven his mettle as a caring and grassroots-based leader."When he was the defence minister, he did a lot for the soldiers, just like when he was the education minister."Under his guidance and supervision, Felda has become what it has set out to be. Most Felda settlers are now out of the poverty cycle, with their children having carved a niche in their own fields."Omar said he strongly believed that Najib had all the traits and capabilities to take the country to greater heights.
"We civil servants will remain loyal and supportive of his new policies and agenda. "Under him, we hope the relationship between employers-workers and the government will remain strong, open and effective," he said.
