PETALING JAYA: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) has denied links to a group claiming to represent civil servants calling for a caretaker government to be set up.

Its president Adnan Mat said that the group, called the Gerakan Kakitangan Awam Malaysia, had claimed that it was representing all civil servants and called for the King to "rest" Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his Cabinet while proposing the setting up of a caretaker administration.

"Their statement was posted on a Facebook account 'Gerakan Kakitangan Awam Malaysia' recently and it does not represent the voices of about 1.7 million civil servants throughout the country," he said in a statement published in Sinar Harian.

However, the post is now inaccessible.

Adnan said that it was irresponsible of the group to claim to represent civil servants and dragging them into controversy that could result in worry among members of the public.

He said that such a proposal could disrupt the national immunisation programme and recovery plans.

"It would only drag the nation into an uncertain situation with dire consequences for the rakyat," he added.

He also that civil servants should not be misrepresented for political purposes or to create discord.

Adnan said that as civil servants, they are to uphold the concept of neutrality and professionalism while respecting the principle of separation of powers.

He urged authorities to investigate and take stern action against the group.

He also urged members of the public not to share the group's statement to avoid causing confusion among the rakyat.

On a separate matter, Adnan commended the national immunisation programme, which has succeeded in reaching the 400,000 daily vaccination target.

He said this would help achieve 80% herd immunity for the nation and speed up recovery plans.
