KUCHING: Federal civil servants will have their housing loan applications processed within three working days beginning next month, said Housing Minister Dato Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said this would be made possible with the opening of the Federal Housing Office here this June.
“Previously, federal civil servants have to wait one to three years to get their housing loan applications processed as the applications are sent to Kuala Lumpur. With the opening of the office here, the processing will be much faster,” said Johari.
Aside from that, people without stable income like fishermen and farmers are now eligible to apply for loans amounting from RM25,000 to RM100,000.
He said financial aid of RM50 million was approved to help those without pay-slips to apply for the loan through Bank Simpanan Negara and Islamic Bank.
“As long as they have an income and a bank account, they can apply for the loan. The loan can also be used to purchase Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR), with only RM100 monthly payment until the age of 65 years,” he said.
Johari said this when launching the Defence Ministry Malaysia Civil Service Union (Kesatria) Sarawak Branch’s 2008 state-level Labour Day Celebration held at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here yesterday.
A blood donation drive was also held in conjunction with celebration to help replenish blood supply at the Blood Bank in Sarawak General Hospital.
Also present were Kesatria Sarawak Branch chairman Saifullah Yahya and Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil (Cuepacs) deputy president Aziz Muda.
