KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — The 1.5 months’ bonus to 1.3 million civil servants was the best so far said Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) president Datuk Omar Osman today. He said the payment of bonus also proved the financial capability of the government.“The government will have studied all areas before making a decision on giving bonus. It showed the government was concerned with the needs of civil servants and had always fulfilled their needs.
“CUEPACS has also seen the move as proof that the country was in a strong economic position,” he said when commenting on the provision of bonus to civil servants by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak when tabling the 2013 Budget in Parliament today.Omar (picture) said the readiness of the government to spend such a huge allocation for bonus was seen as enabling the wellbeing of low and medium income civil servants.“CUEPACS is grateful to the government for giving bonus and I hope civil servants will increase their productivity and improve their performances,” he said.
He said CUEPACS also welcomed the construction of 123,000 units of affordable houses at strategic areas in Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam (Selangor), Johor Baharu (Johor), Seremban (Negeri Sembilan) and Kuantan (Pahang) next year as it was among items relevant for civil servants. However, he was still hoping the government would lower the interest rate for housing loans from 4 per cent to 1 per cent, to reduce the burden of housing loans for civil servants in the country. — Bernama
