PUTRAJAYA: About 36,000 civil servants are estimated to have submitted fake medical chits (MCs) bearing the logos and addresses of legitimate hospitals so far, said Cuepacs president Omar Osman.
He said these MCs were sold by certain syndicates who had duplicated the MCs of government hospitals including Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Hospital Putrajaya.
“We have been receiving complaints from government agencies and when we checked with these hospitals, the doctors who purportedly signed these MCs did not exist,” he told reporters after making a courtesy call on Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan here on Monday.
He said some of these civil servants were found to be doing part-time jobs after their normal working hours.
“Some of them work until 2am, 3am and when they feel too tired the next day, they just buy one of these MCs and submit them to their department,” he said.
Omar warned all civil servants that they could lose their job if there was evidence to show that they had submitted fake MCs.
“They will be referred to the disciplinary board and risk losing their pension money.
“We hope to increase their awareness before such cases become a worrying trend,” he said.
However, he hoped government agencies would allow Cuepacs to provide counselling to these civil servants before taking action against them.
“We will give them counselling and advise but if they continue to do so, we will let their employers to take action against them,” he said.
